In 2020, the Starbuck Foundation paired up with Bridgeport United Football Club to start a free soccer team for Bridgeport girls.
We started with a u11 team and found more sponsors to help us get the girls uniforms, soccer cleats, a professional coach and an official league to play in. This team practiced once a week and played other teams from towns around Bridgeport every Saturday in the Spring and in the Fall. They lost every game for a year and half leading up to their last game of the 2021 Fall season (now u12). They played Ridgefield and were down 1-0 at half. They came out in the second half and scored two goals, winning their first game as a team. There are around 20 girls in the program. We are looking forward to the 2022 Spring season!
In the future, we want to create two teams and practice more. We need help paying for the girls equipment and additional coaching hours. If you would like to donate, you can donate on the Starbuck Foundation website.
